88 Ranger 2.9L 4x4

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal</w:View> <w:Zoom>0</w:Zoom> <woNotOptimizeForBrowser/> </w:WordDocument> </xml><![endif]--> Hi Rangers. Bought a Ranger last night that needs some help. It starts and idles fast for a few seconds than dies. Will not take any throttle or load. Have new fuel pumps and electric sensors. I suspect a gasket leak and will check for that after TG.

I saw a link to a How TO PULL CODES with a volt meter but can't find it today. Any one help with this link?

Go to the FTE Ranger index page, click on "Technical Information." Then scroll down to "Emissions," then select the "EEC-IV codes" section.

Thanks michigan66, I found the page for pulling the codes with a meter.

Slight problem
Pulling EEC IV Codes & More EEC-IV Codes are dead links for me. Should I call this to someones attention?

Those two entries have been dead for a couple of years. I agree that something should be done with them. One of the moderators should take care of this.

Check these two links to see if they are of any use to you. These are where the broken links used to point to. But the codes listed are for 3.8L SEFI Supercharged engines. If any of the codes listed are applicable to other engines with the same ignition system let us know and we can fix the links.

EEC-IV 2 digit codes.

EEC-IV 3 digit codes.

Thanks for the help. I have managed to get the truck to run and have found a few other problems I need to fix before it try to make the motor run well. Fixed the brakes today and found the front wheel drive portion does not work. HO goodie I get to learn about transfer cases.
