Looking for ideas big truck

I want the towing capacity, yet want it to look like a normal pickup.
And a new truck is not in the budget. Besides would rather build it from scratch sorta. And may not be a ford. Any good ideas and links to others that have built a heavy hauller?

I have posted these pix before, but here are my photochops again.
The first is one im going to build, and I am acquiring parts now, Its a 58 f700. the older truck is a conversion of another FTE members truck. It is a 53 F600.
The one in my sig is a 78 f600, and its not a photoshop.

Looks good. Though I'm not a crew cab person, I'd rather a super cab deal, the extra space is nice.
Thats the right idea, a heavy truck discuised as a pickup. Hmm but those tires are a giveaway. I want to pull to max non cdl. I was thinking a 5 and a 2 axle, engine is up in the air for now. Any idea what those trucks scale at?

who says you need to use the factory axles and tires? 2.5 ton Rockwells are your friend, swap to a pair of those, there are parts available everywhere for those axles, even disc brake kits.
I don't see why you need a CDL, check the other discussions on this site regarding CDL.

You can easily use a super cab or regular cab, I just like the space and looks of crew cabs.

In regards to the CDL issue, try looking for an F600, or so, size or smaller as opposed to the 700 and up..... check the vin plate or whatever before you buy and make sure you only buy something that has a GVW of 26000 or less and you should be ok.

Yeah I'm even thinking of an old 2 ton chev, according to the info I have can go 32,000 gross combination, and no wouldn't want an old 6 banger doing that. 2.5 ton rockwells? So where do you find them? Front drive axles too? How much weight do they add, and what gear ratio's is common?

farm plates

I dont know how it is in your state..but here in texas. Old as heck farm trucks with farm tags dont need a cdl..most of the time children drive them to the mills and back..I was driving as soon as i could push the chutch down by myself..I learned to drive on a popping jonny because it had a long lever for the clutch..the farmall had a foot clutch and i could not push it down till i was probley 12 or 13..our 70 f700 with 330 4spd 2bl still chuggs to the gin and back..If it ant broke dont fix it...I have wanted to change out the dash with my 71 hotrodfordpickup because it has neat gages..but its still stock... bill

2.5 tons weigh around 750 lbs, not much more than a Dana 70 found under old f350's.
Likely a lighter axle than comes under an f600. Yes, front drive, they come from old retired 6x6 military trucks, just Google Rockwell 2.5. You can get lock-out hubs and lockers too. Pair it up with a divorce-mount T-136-27 transfer case (2.5 ton case). Some f600's came with 4 wheel drive. Only ratio available for Military axles are 6:72 for 2.5 ton, 6:44 for 5 ton, and Rockwell f-106 axles found under f600's came with gears ranging from roughly 5:00 to 8:00.

look on ebay. You can always call Boyce equipment in Ogden UT, thats where I got my stuff from, but I think I got ripped off for the quality of the rebuild. Theres Chucks trucks in Florida. Also there is a place in southern California, but I forgot the name.

Go to the 4x4 thread and ask the guys the best place to get Rockwells from, they may have an idea of a good place to get the axles cheaper.
