Why add 2 cycle oil to diesel fuel?

So this last time I put fuel in my X I put in the full 24oz. bottle of 2 cycle instead of the normal 12oz. I use. I always get the cheapest 2 cycle on the shelf, same as last two times, penzoil again this time. I do actually notice a slight difference in sound going from 12oz. to 24oz. for 22-24 gallons of fuel (I put in $100 only). It isn't a real huge OMG its quiet difference but I can tell it is a bit quieter than normal. Over all it is about $2 more oil per fill up.
Now I am wondering what a whole gallon would do?

Good old thread. I have noticed, as has my wife, a quieter truck with WM 2 cycle oil use at 1oz/gal. I fill at roughly half a tank with a 16oz dr pepper bottle full of it, then toss the bottle. I'm always drinking more for replacements.
One of a handful of mods to quiet and smooth the rig - hutch, FRx, HPx, pre-pump filter/fuel line/clamps, firewall insulation, DP on stock. Still need to do the door seal mod.
Need to pester my bro-in-law again for those lubricity and cetane numbers from Exxon. He manages the pipeline distribution in Spokane and said he needed to get that info from corporate.

Just dumped 40oz of 2 cycle in with my fill-up last night. I add fuel every time I get around 1/4 tank, so I'll be running about 1.25 oz per gallon. I ran the white bottle all winter, but the fill-up before this I didn't put anything in. I don't shut-off when fueling either & it was noticeably quieter when I pulled away from the pump.

What color is the 2stroke oil you guys are putting in.
To the people putting red 2stroke oil or ATF in their fuel, if the dot decides to dip your tank, you'll be crying after the fine. If fuel is red they think you're running offroad or #2 fuel and they get huffy about it. Lots of guys say that the dot doesn't check pickups, but I've seen it lots of times.
Just be careful what you put in.

of course you would have to be in the right place at just the right time to see it happen.i mean what's it take? all of 15 seconds maybe? so i guess that's a short window to ever witness such an event.not saying it doesn't happen, but what part of the state and who was it you saw? the dot/blue vehicle or a trooper? i only run straight on road diesel,so iv got no worries personally, but it's interesting how you have seen it many of times, yet i never have is all.
