I have an 87 5.0 Mustang that will not start. It cranks but does not run. I have checked all, fuses, relays, fuel pump, inertia switch. I changed the coil, distributor cap and rotor, TFI Module, fuel filter, and nothing. I am only getting code 34 from KOEO test. I don't know what else to try. Anybody have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I changed the EGR Valve and it cleared the Error code 34. Unfortunately, it still does not start... My next guess is the ignition switch. Hope it works...

f150andMustang, I'd also suspect the TFI/ICM module, but if you've checked or changed it, then look for a CPS sensor near the harmonic balancer. I'm not sure if you have one since you have a distributor, but it's worth a look. If these go bad, you get no spark signal from the ICM.....

Yes, I have changed the TFI module and nothing. I don't know which is the CPS sensor or harmonic balancer. I think there is a spark coming from the distributor, but still no firing. Most of the time I can figure out what is going on, but this time I am lost. Any other ideas?

OK, ignore my previous post, I don't think you have a CPS (crank postion sensor) on an 87.

If you're getting a spark from the distributor, it should start if there's fuel. Maybe check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail with a gauge, or remove the air tube at the throttle body, and spray some starter fluid into it while cranking.

If it fires using the starter fluid, then it's a fuel problem, probably a bad pump. If not, then remove a spark plug, ground it on the engine, and see if the plug fires when cranking the engine......
