The $30 eBay things don't have a real good reputation for longevity out here on FTE.

Yes, you can use the carb off the same truck you got the DSII distributor out of. Even better is one off a mid 70s truck, since it'll be pre-EGR / emissions oriented.

All the pictures were there for me. Something blocking them?

im at work maybe the system is blockin the photos... hopefully they work at home because that will help me out a lot. ill try to find the duraspark system and carb in a mid 70s truck then. might buy a new distributor tho just cuz of the rainy weather here in oregon. probably pick up a rebuild kit for the carb before it gets installed. time to get out the mud boots and go digging around at the wrecking yard.

Be aware that at some point, Ford changed the spacing of the two bolts which hold down the carburetor. The earlier models were a little closer to each other. With a round file, one can easily elongate the holes if needed.

During a Duraspark2 conversion, I replaced the feedback carburetor on my 1986 with a Carter YF from a 1970 F350. It took about 15 minutes to modify the mounting holes and it works great!

Holy Thread Revival..

Quick question I hope

When you removed the computer, wiring, etc

What did you do about the EVAP and SMOG pump? I 'think' the evap has a computer controlled solenoid so if the computer is gone..

I see you just got rid of (blocked off) the EGR

I'm getting ready to do the same thing but am trying to figure out what all is computer controlled and will need to be dealt with

Thanks!

I love the versatility of the DS2 dizzy. I run mine with an MSD box and a TFI coil. The msd can be used with or without the ford box. I run mine w/o it.

The EVAP system will work using only a couple vacuum ports, no solenoids needed (it's how it was done on older engines-they have been using it since the late 60s) You may need to scrounge a canister from an older car/truck. Here's a simplified diagram http://www.agcoauto.com/content/imag...hanced.jpg.jpg ~Bill

I just finished doing this conversion on my 1986 F150 300 I6
and it was something i had been wanting to do for awhile.
I searched and read trying to get all the info to do it. Then I found your post and just let me say thank you for the detail and pics of how to get this done. It went very well and the truck is running great Thanks !!

I am now on my second DS2 setup. The first was on my 1974 F100 with a 302.That setup came off of a Lincoln. The one that I am using now is on my 1984 F150 with a 300 6cyl.Cost for both systems was ZERO.Now have a total of appx 200K miles total on both systems with NO failures.A little hint to increase the reliability of the ignition boxes,is to run an extra GROUND wire from one of the mounting screws for the box to the firewall or some other suitable place.
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

The existing harness isn't designed to plug into the DuraSpark II setup. There aren't the proper plugs or connections.
