I haul a very similar dump trailer with similar loads (just not an excavator). I upgraded my hitch to that Titan hitch. Rated for 2000lb weight carrying tongue weight as most dump trailers don't use WD hitch. It's also rated at 18,000lbs. The matching ball mount is one huge piece of steel, not a hollowed tube like most ball mounts.

His excavator looks like it's centered over the axles to help with all that weight and tongue weight.

Can you just drive that excavator up or do you need to use the arm to help?

MDS- The early Super Duty trucks like my 99 through I believe 2002 including the Excursions up to 2002 have a hitch rated at 5k/10K. The 2002 + trucks received larger hardware upping it to 6k/12k. This is where my question stemmed from.

For sure.

I think my factory 2-1/2" was 8000-15,000. I decided to up the 18,000lb Reese model because it wasn't all that expensive. Gives me some piece of mind that the hardware is up to the task. It's also hooked to the frame in other places than just the underside rail of the frame.

There was (currently its stripped off along with everything else behind the cab) Curt Hitch rated to 17K with a 2K toinge weight. I don't think I would attempt it with the stock hitch. I was taking up into the woods over some pretty rough logging roads, and it was pounding me pretty good.

The excavator climbs right up the ramps - it just fits!

Those are good prices on the 6.0 cooler. If the one I already bought does not cut the mustard I'll have to go for that one.

I was thinking of doing a thread. Is there a specific place to post it, or should I just post it in the main fourm?

I'm not doing anything crazy, just replacing a lot of stuff with stock parts and adding some durability/longevity/towing themed mods. I don't want to get off topic here, but I'll post more details in a new thread.

You can make a build thread here or in your Engine specific forum works too.

Also the OEM 6.0L cooler bolts into factory holes, it does require some barbed fittings to adapt though. Link below has some details.

It looks like your dump trailer is very similar to mine deck height wise, just different manufacturers. The ramps make for a rather steep climb up and I wasn't sure how larger equipment would handle it. I don't use one but I always figured a skidsteer would need to be backed on, throwing off tongue weight. Also that an excavator would need to use the arm to help it from tipping.

I've seen some, maybe yours has them, that have two jacks on each side of the rear so when loading your truck bed isn't sky high when the equipment is on the ramp and rear of the trailer. Do you raise the dump bed when loading the excavator?

My ramps are about 6 feet long, which gives a reasonable incline to run either the bobcat or the backhoe in either forwards or backwards. When I load them i just have to have the trailer hooked up to the truck. I truck some blocks on the trailer wheels to save my transmission.
