Serial number from VIN?? Please clarify.

I am looking for new front brake rotors for my 75 F250 2WD 460 w/dual piston calipers. I have found that websites/local part stores list two different rotors - one is for vehicles with serial numbers before #V80000 and the other is for serial numbers after #V80000. However, on one specific site, they indicate that the serial number is the last 5 digits of the VIN and refer to the parts fitting those with serial numbers before #80001 and the other one fitting serial numers after #80002.

The last 5 numerical digits of my VIN are 20612 and there is a W before that. W20612.

So, my confusion is whether the "V" is actually part of the serial number or if that is just for reference. If the V is actually part of the serial, then mine would fall in the "after" V80001; if it is just the numerical part that I need to use, it would be the before 80000.

Can someone clarify what I am looking for so I don't get the wrong thing?

Thanks.

1961 thru today: The serial number is the last SIX digits of the VIN.

Letters: 1967/77's have one preceding the 5 numbers, 1978/80's have two preceding the 4 numbers.

D5UZ1102C .. Hub & Rotor Assy / Obsolete

Fits: 1975 F250 2WD with dual piston calipers from serial number V80,001 / 1975 E250 (there is no serial number break).

1976/79 is different again. Dual piston: 1968/74 F250 2WD's & 1975 F250 2WD's before serial number V80,001 use: C8TZ1102A.

Darn. That means I need the more expensive one.

Thanks for clarifying that. I was thinking that was the case, but I was hoping it would not be.
