I can tell you from 1st hand experience that the factory skid plates are worthless. they tend to pretzel pretty easily

2012 Flex Limited - Beware Ford and their products. Going to take my business to Chevy/Dodge and see how the other side lives. I can only take so much from Ford and their substandard products, services not rendered.
I have the factory "off road" package on my '07 XLT. I didn't want the plastic running boards because they tended to fill up with snow and slush here in the North Coast and the tubular style come with the "off road" package. This package surprisingly did NOT include off-road or other aggressive tires. Same all-season tires as the rest of 'em.
Since I don't do any real off roading (a few muddy partially washed out dirt roads from time to time, but no rock crawling) the plates, running boards, and tires work well for me. Replacement tires are all season as well.
