Clifford Valve Cover - 240/300 Six

I contacted Clifford 2 weeks ago to inquire about ordering a valve cover for my 300 six.
I didn't see them on thier website so I called them. The lady on the phone said there were only a few left and that they might not be carrying them any more, so if you need one...
I just got mine a few days ago and had it powercoated black.
I'm finally close to firing up my rebuilt engine for the first time.

It wouldn't surprise me if Clifford starting paring down their offerings. They were the premier inline guys for a while, but there for some time their customer service was really suffering, and their prices are awfully high comared to some of the other companies out there.

I'm really glad about all they've done over the years to progress the performance inline 6 segment, but unless they change their customer service and/or prices, or widen their offerings with new products (I'm thinking a factory ground roller cam and lifters that didn't cost a grand...), they're going to have a rough go in the current economy.

just my .02

Gorgeous piece of machinery!

And well said NavyMID, that's the issue with them. I really do hope they can get their act together. It's not every day that there's a company fully devoted to straight sixes.

I second KXKid661. Where did you get that lifter cover and the bolt kit?

Lifter Cover/ Bolt kit

Thanks guys, the lifter cover came from a guy here on the forum. He makes up small batches of stuff and I picked one up about 8 months ago.
You can reach him at eric@hawesengineering.com
There is no bolt kit for the 6 that I am aware of, but Totally Stainless in PA. has stainless indented head hardware, you just have to do a lot of measuring, I bought an assortment of 1/4 X 20, 5/16 X 18 and 3/8 X 14 bolts.
You can see the indent heads here.

They look correct and nice.
Thanks, Doug

The guy running Clif's inherited it. Or he married it--the daughter. I imagine there is a low turn over for the 300 stuff, and so the cost is high. Really, how many people do you personally know who hotrod the 300?

I do have to admit that when I saw two new Mercedes in the driveway of their new fine home, I did feel uneasy.

Anyway...you engine is pristine. Welcome to the club.

Eric is a great guy to deal with. I was working on arranging a group buy for the lifter covers before I deployed, and simply ran out of time, like so many other projects. I'm still planning on putting a cover on my six when I get home.

On top of looking sharp, they should really help cut down on oil leaks from the cam cover, since the billet won't distort like the factory stamped piece.

Digging up an old thread for an obscure reason...

Is that the stock water neck? Or where did you get it? The one on my truck has an outlet tube that extends almost above the valve cover; yours looks much tidier.

The only difference I can see is the added height of the aluminum valve cover, and the difference in appearance with the rad. hose on or off.
Yours appears to be an iron unit (by the surface rust) while the other is an aluminum (pot metal more likely) version.
I've snapped an ear off of two of those stock potmetal outlets in one day before, so I'm not a big fan of them.
Even the cheap-o import replacement from Checker is a cast iron version.

Maybe, but with the heat plate I've got plumbed into the manifold the heater hose connection would look much tidier with a neck like that. I'm talking about the bypass to the heater core. I just picked up a lo-boy alternator bracket like he's got, so no worries with the fitment there.

Remove the big nipple that is there currently (that used to have the vacuum tree) and you can replace it with a straight pipe nipple 2"-3" long. That's what I did on my truck, works great and looks much cleaner.
