Thinking about using Zerex Super Cleaner instead of VC9

Going to do a coolant flush on my dad's '03 6.0L next week. Its past due on the factory fill; only 68k miles, but well over 5 years. The engine has been flawless and the oil and coolant temps stay very close when working it, so there are no oil cooler issues. We are changing it over to ELC as International specs for this motor and since I firmly believe the silicates in Premium Gold / G05 are what cause the oil coolers to plug up. Went to pick up two bottles of VC9 for the flush and just about crapped when they told me $26.50/qt I'm thinking about using Zerex Super Cleaner since it sounds like a similar product and should be fully compatible with both new and past coolant in the system. (Original Premium Gold same as Zerex G05 and new will be Zerex ELC). Any thoughts on this?

I like the sound of the Zerex ELC...Prestone product. I can get the VC-9 from a local Motorcraft distribution warehouse for $17.28 qt....maybe one of the local Ford parts bubbas can turn you on to their parts suppliers.

Rotella ELC is also an excellent choice, but harder to find. NAPA carries all of the Zerex products.

My local 6.0L buddy picked up CAT ELC for $22 gallon. Thats probably what I'll use.

That's another good one, $22/gallon isn't a great price though. NAPA has Zerex ELC concentrate for around $18/gallon regular price.
