Post-80's frame question
Hello all,
I have a question on 80-on-up frames...
Do the 'standard cab' long beds share the same frame as the 'extended cab' short beds? If not, is it possible to (fairly easily) mount an 'extended cab' cab onto a 'standard cab' frame if I was to build a custom flat bed?
Thanks in advance.

hmmm. I know that the S/C short bed had the same wheelbase as the regualar cab, the long bed had a longer wheebase, the regular cab longber is 133 inches, and the supercap long bed is 138 inches, I would assume if you use a 6 foot flatbed as opposed to an 8 footer it would work.

No, the frame turns up just behind the cab, so a short-cab/longbed frame would interfere with the floor of the cab extension. Getting the right frame would be MUCH cheaper, easier, & safer than butchering the wrong one.
I can e-mail you a LARGE document (~320K) that shows all the wheelbases, but you have to send me a real e-mail. The BBS system doesn't accept attachements. Meantime, look around the Ford site.

I'd like that email-
My address is coderunner@military.com
I have a few Ford truck projects going on, and that info would be helpful. Thank you.

Post-80's frame question
Last summer I got a bug to get an ex cab. I did research on the same thing, I ended up buying an ex cab short bed and it has a longer wheel base (139") than a standard cab long bed (133"),
The frame is longer under the cab on the ex cab. after the cab it raises up some, I suppose with a 3" body lift on the front four mounts, and a fabbed / relocated rear mount and a custom bed you could do it, or just stretch the frame under the cab.
If you want pics or measurements, I could send them to you I still have a reg cab frame in the driveway.
Let mw know,
Aaron

Post-80's frame question
I've done the opposite, made a standard cab out of an ex. cab... You will find the difference in the frame is 22" between the rear of the tranny x-member and the kickup for the rear cab mounts... Remove the offending 22", weld back together, bolt on your regular cab... LOL. I forget the name of the company now, but, the company that built the ex. cab first generation Lightnings added that 22" to the Lightning frame... I will not advocate doing this in your backyard... My frame was welded by a friend of mine who is a certified welder, and has done many heavy truck frame extensions and shortenings.

Hey Steve83,
I'd like that info as well.

I am currently doing some research on frame dimenisons as well. I am thinking of shortening a reg cab f-350 to fit a bronco body. That way I would have 1-ton chassis. By the way, I have a '92 Bronco.
