How to tell if transmission was replaced/rebuilt

Hey guys, great site you have here, just bought a 97 f350 2wd crew cab with 156,000 miles, runs like a new truck, just wondering how I could tell if the transmission was replaced or rebuilt, thanks.

Welcome to fte Cdaddy. I don't think there is any way you will tell without pulling it apart.

What he said... Its gonna be tough to tell without having any receipts from the PO. You can always take it to a shop to be serviced, They will give you a condition on it.

Look for an inline filter like Magnafine in the cooler lines. Not everyone, but many of the better tranny shops will install something like a magnafine after the old tranny explodes to catch particles trapped in the lines or cooler so it doesn't hurt the new tranny. Otherwise look for a sticker or plate somewhere indicating a rebuild.

No way to know 100%, but those are the easy checks.
