4r70w tranny problems
Hello,
New to this site and hope I can find some help here. I have a 1998 F150 5.4triton V8 2wd stepside that has some tranny problems
1) when at a stand still it takes off good but it won't upshift to 2nd gear until about 3-3500 rpms and pretty harsh when it does unless I let off the gas I can get it to upshift to 2nd at about 23-2500 rpms but 3rd and 4th shift smoothly
2) the other thing when I get down on the gas the engine just revs no tranny engagement at all revs never reall waited for it to engage rev'd all the way up to 5k and no response from the tranny
any help on these two things would be great
also checked the tranny fluid no burnt smells and bright pink
and also had the O/D light flashing planning on getting a scan tool soon so I can extract some codes
any help on these two things would be great
thanx

A possibility is the Throttle Position Sensor on the throttle body has a dead spot.
Check this out with a mutimeter on the ohms scale with plug off or the voltage output from the center terminal that goes back to signal the computer of position, to the system "return" 'NOT' to engine ground, with the ignition to run engine not running.
.
The reason it may be the problem is the engine computer only knows what you want to do by the position of this sensor along with road speed, engine rpm etc to cause the trans to either upshift, hold or down shift.
This TPS sensor is an operation indicator for a lot of different functions.
If it's found ok, then the trans may have some issues.
Let us know how it goes.
Good luck.
