It Started! It Ran! And it ran nice!
After 3 months of gentle rolling over, squirts in the plug holes, then filed the plugs and pitted points, installed a new rotor and cap. The spark plug leads are 40 years old and will get replaced.Purged the tank(not bad),new gas line and G3 filter after petcock on tank.
I spent some time making electricial connections bright and shiny in hopes of eliminating unwanted resistance, connected 2 freeze burnt 6 V costco batts with a 10 amp 6 volt charger,3 gallons of 91 0ctane,a shot of ether and the 239 V8 started, ran lumpy and filled the air with a wonderful cloud of white, oily pungent thick smoke...3 months of gentle rolling over coming out!
After 2-3 minutes it was running smokeless and smooth.I couldn't open the choke all the way and had to keep my foot on the gas pedal a bit.
Thanks to all the Folks here that share there knowledge and insight that makes so much possible for everyone.
Cheers!

What fantastic news!! Congrats!
Years ago I had a 49 Pontiac with a flathead straight 8. The thing had sat for years. Likeyou I gently coaxed it back to life. When I finally lit it off it clattered and smoked like a son-of-a-gun. I just let it sit there at idle while I contemplated what in the world Iwas going to do with a junk straight 8.
Once it started getting warm it got quieter and smoother, pertty soon it was purring right along, no smoke, no clatter, no stumble.
Sometimes you get lucky

Julie, with luck the drive will be the 70 feet to the 3 bay garage for further attention.
I wonder if driving the M1 down the road will be anywhere near the Buzz that starting the Flattie was?
The temp gauge started to rise and the oil pressure said 80 lbs. on a cold crank, and when things warmed up the oil settled in at about 50lbs.(big jump from 30-80 on the little gauge.)
