What to do with my e40d

Ok so I just got a 96 with the e40d and it has been rebuilt by deltra transmission... I been reading a lot and am trying to figure out if coons mod is ok with a sonnax kit or just to pick one. When I get my to tuner reprogrammed for this truck will a shift kit affect what dp tuner needs to tune the truck? Does the btw valve body come with a shift kit installed??

I'd pick up a BTS or RacerX valve body and call it good for now. The DP tuner will help a little.
My PHP chip helps shifts a little, but I did Coon's mod also and it helps the shifts more.

So a racerx or bts valve body is the best mod you can do without a total rebuild?

For the most part, yes. I'm real happy with my racer x valve body. Shifts are excellent. Triple disc torque convertor would be nice too but as you know the tranny has to come out for that.

What is "Coon's Mod"?? Link? Thread?? Thanks! My E4OD lasted 212k, but I dumped the fluid when new and replaced with Mobil 1 synthetic. Did that with all fluids except motor oil. The rebuild shop did a cheap, crappy job and I expect to have to replace / rebuild before it makes 60k.

the only thing i will say about atuo's may make some pep mad but, 5 speed swap!! most shops want 2 or 3 grand to rebuild are tranys, and new built tranys are 4 grand and up, that is a lot of valair clutchs in my book

My tranny's cooked as well. Found a place called Hansers out of Billings MT that offers a rebuilt one for $1200 with a year warranty. If I go this route, should I have this Racer x valve body installed before it's run? Or should I look for a place that will rebuild it with stronger internals all together? My goal was to get this tranny in from Hansers and get an aftermarket trans cooler and maybe an aftermarket outside filter kit and be done with it. I probably wont own the truck more than two years.

You basically take out the accumulator body, drill three very small holes between the fluid passages for the 1-2 shift, 2-3 shift, and 3-4 shift, and it will make it shift firmer.

What are you getting for a convertor? If I knew how much better the tranny shifts with the valve body earlier I would have done it 10 years ago. I'd change it if you are doing any mods at all to it. It's your money though, maybe that would mess up their warranty?? Shouldn't cause its better than stock but you never know...
