That's funny-- you are looking for a new truck and you have about what I want.

Hello all. I have some issues that I need your help on. I bought a 1997 F350 crew cab, dually with the 7.3 turbo diesel. I bought it back in December from someone my brother knows in Kentucky. I live six hours away in Ohio. Said it ran great and looked great. I trusted my brother because he usually is pretty darn good with vehicles. Two weeks later I went down to get it. To my surprise it started and sounded great. Went to drive it and oh heck!!! Had to get high RPM's for it to shift. Speedometer/odometer didn't work. O/D light on shifter blinks. Shifts so hard about jerks you out of the seat. Had a guy run for codes. Came back saying VSS wasn't working. Put new one in it. Same thing. Someone said speedometer cluster was bad. Got one I know wired. Same thing. Another guy said the remote keyless entry module was bad. That's where speedometer head gets its power. Took it out and pulled the boards out of it. Sure enough there is broken diodes in it. I'm trying to find one. The Ford number on it is FV3F 14B128. Does anyone have it? Or does anyone know what the voltage to the speedometer head should be? Really appreciate your help ASAP.
THANKS

Dennis, welcome to the Kansas Chapter.

I don't have a diesel of that vintage. Mine is a 2001 and I probably won't be of much help.

Did you check the 94-98 7.3 diesel forum here at FTE. The folks there probably can give you a much better idea about your truck. Good luck

You have been posting in a lot of places, hard to keep up, lol. Ok if the code showed VSS then you need to check the wiring to the sensor. I think the wiring goes through the ABS valve on the frame rail, so you need to check the wiring all the way from the front of the truck to the back. Also some people have had problems with part store VSS. I bought one from O'reilly to try to fix my shifting problem and it functioned, but it still made my speedometer needle bounce and my cruise control surge (didn't fix my shift problem since that turned out to be something else). I replaced the VSS with a used OEM out of a F150 and speedometer and cruise is solid now.

Sorry for posting all over. Honestly wasn't sure if anything posted. I got my VSS at oreillies as well. I'm going back down next weekend so I'll check the wires again. Any chance you know what the voltage at the speedometer head should be?

Thanks
Dennis

No problem with the posting.

Edit: I am starting to confuse myself, so I am moving my response to your other thread.
