I thought the 5.4 and 4.6 were supposed to be identical in external dimensions? Why is the 5.4 bigger?

Let me rephrase my question a little bit considering the debate it is causing. Could a stock 4.6 beat a stock 5.7? Hopefully that helps.

Yes... A stock 4.6 Cobra could beat a stock 5.7 LS1. My 5.0 (offroad pipe, shorty headers, underdrive crank pulley) came very close with way less power (due to the driver ). The Cobras are easily close enough to make it driver vs. driver.

 

So the block is taller then. I guess thats why it seems easier to change the plugs on a 4.6 vs a 5.4, a little more room on top.

5.7L is better engine, I would use that instead. I don't have experience with 5.8L but that's another great V8.

 

a stock 350 will beat a stock 282 moter..... why? cause the 350 can use up more gas plain and simple.

can u do stuff to a 4.6 to whoop a 350 SURE! if im not mistaken a mustang cobra can kill a corvette, heck i even have a 98 mustang cobra whooping a 99 vette. i think we should throw a 5.8 in a mustang just for the heck of it and really do some dohc supercharger stuff..

Yeah but think about it,throw a supercharger on a vette and what that SOB smoke that cobra.Ive had cobras and z28s and my cobras DID NOT run nearly as fast as my LS1s did trust me guys if yall are not prepared then ur going to lose,Ive been there.

 

i love fords to death, but to out horse a stock chevy 5.7 you're gonna need to do SOMETHING special to that moter. for instance next yera the ford 5.4 triton will have the 3 valve design which will put it at 300 hp. the lightning needs a supercharger to reach 380 horses. now get a ford 5.8 moter and put that against a 5.7 chevy and we'll see.

maybe a better battle is a ford 5.4 (2003) against the chevy 5.3

 

If you can get me a NEW gm car with a 5.7L to go up against a new mustang with a 4.6L we will see which one is faster. Oh wait a minute gm no longer makes a two door rear wheel drive v8 powered sports car. And that my friends is your answer, the bowtie once again bowed down to the Blue Oval. Let's try this again when the GTO hits the streets.

 

um the corvette is a GM product, with 2 wheel drive, and a v-8 moter........ and a regular corvette vs. a mustang cobra is a darn good race too!
