52 F-1 VIN ?

I bought a 52 F-1 that has a Nova clip installed, the VIN plate on the glovebox door was not riveted/screwed onto the door but sitting inside the glovebox, the title VIN # reads exactly what the VIN plate reads except for the plate has 3 extra letters in front of the #'s, the rest of the #'s are the same, is that normal?
What held the VIN plate to the glove box door? A picture would be great.
Thanks!

Post a picture if you can. The Data tag (VIN) was held in with screws.

The VIN should be something like this:

F1R2RH123456

F1 - 1/2 ton
R - 239 V8
2 - 1952
RH - Richmond, CA plant
123456 - production sequence number

Also, in 1952 Ford eliminated another data tag that was affixed in the upper right-hand corner of the firewall in 1948-1951 Ford trucks.

I can't guess whether it's normal or not without knowing what the numbers/letters are.

Ford varied things a LOT back then.

The tag reads F1R2RH-17506, the Registration reads R2RH17506, guess the F1 is obvious.
I would like to stamp the frame with the correct VIN as the Nova frame has nothing, would they have used the F1R2RH-17506 or the R2RH17506 from the factory? Thanks.

I edited my original post. RH is Richmond, CA plant. I had RH in the VIN example and RC in the decode example.

So, the correct sequence is F1R2RH17506 and would have been stamped in the frame raile with one star before and after the sequence.

The asterisks were not stamped in the frame as they were embossed on the rating plates.

Ilya is correct - the full number with no gaps or hyphens.

Julie may be right on the asterisks. However, I remember seeing them on at least one frame.

Doesn't really matter how you stamp it since the front end of the frame isn't stock.

The asterisks are really hollow 5 point stars. I didn't go out to see if they're on my 52 but they are there on the two 48's and the 50. Just cleaned the '50 frame the other day for registration purposes so I can get the bonded title.

Interesting. I wonder if that's a 48-50 VS 51/52 thing, or if it was different from plant to plant. Mine (51) definately doesn't have them on the frame.

(Of course oddly, mine was US built [Long Beach] and the serial number was stamped on the drivers side - like a Canadian truck!)

I know that I've seen the stars on the 48-50 frame that I just sold. I still have the front portion of the 52 frame that you (Julie) and I split. I should try to find the vin there and see if it has the stars.

I have a feeling that it's a 48-50 vs 51-52 thing.

Yesterday I looked at the spare fream section that I have. It's a 1952 frame and does have the stars in front and rear of the stamped VIN.

Hi, If that helps, I have both asterisks before and after my 51 F1 VIN number. It looks like that: *F1R1EG392439*.

Hi Alex,

Nice to see you on here.

"EG"?? I wonder what production plant that is. Do you know where your truck was originally made or where it came from?

Thanks, Ilya
