Question Safe way to test?

Just curious if there was a safe to check and see if someone temp gauge was still working. In my 76 I know it doesn't because I've blown the radiator racing (and patched it all by myself). But I just recently got 68 that I'm goin to ripped the tranny out of it put in the 76, but anyway, just curious to know if there was a way to test the gauge, without blowing my radiator or engine.

Yup key turned on, no need for motor running just remove sender wire and touch it to ground. The Gauge if good will go up to Hot. But don't leave it like this very long. Just long to test it. hope this helps...my2cents
