Those wild countrys have got to be old! I had a set on my first bronco ten years ago, and they were old then. Don't want to loose the tread and screw up the nice body.

So as it turns out, in the passenger side front piston (Closest to the fan) had the connecting rod come out, and it slammed up into the cylinder head, leaving a decent sized crack. Damaged the inside of the cylinder, so I just bought a 429 to swap in

Thanks for the update.

For the guy that asked about the AC, I would say it's an after market setup. There is no AC box on the firewall.

It's also been converted to R134a, can tell that by the service caps on the lines.

Got pictures.

This is the engine we bought for $350. 429 with CJ heads, holley 2bbl. Runs like a champ

Getting it off the ground....

...and onto a stand

Meanwhile I pulled the passenger side valve cover, and this is what I found;

It was pretty bad. Antifreeze poured out when I removed the cover

I also got all the accessories off the truck engine, and started dis-connecting things.

Here's how she sits. Waiting for a break in the weather to remove the engine

.

That 429 was setup as a power unit, wonder what it was pulling, irrigation possibly?

We were thinking it was a generator mounted on the back of a truck

That would have been quite the "portable" power for the back of a truck!
Either that or a pump of some kind or possibly a sawmill.

If you're looking to get rid of that bellhousing, I'd be interested.

The white one? It's a mount, not a bellhousing. and it needs a certain type flywheel (which I have) to operate.

Engine out

Finally got the blown 460 in the truck out. took a lot of micro movements, but we got it. here are pics as we progressed. I'll try to get them in order

Just starting out, getting everything into position

Boom ran out of height, so we supported it with wood, and moved chains around

Got it as far up as we could, but still didn't have enough room to clear the front. Decided to take it out over the passenger side quarter panel. moved it, but even then we didn't have room to clear the side.

Then my dad had a great idea. We jacked up the left side, and took the front tire off. Put a jack stand a little ways down the frame, and lowered it down. Only then did we clear with the engine. The trans was still in the way

The angle of the trans was so great that we couldn't slide it past. After a bit of brainstorming, I climbed in to the compartment, got a 2x4, and leveraged the back up while my dad moved the hoist and engine. finally got it over and out without scraping the sides with the trans spleen.

So here's how it sits now, while we clean a space in the garage for it.

That valve cover shot from your post on Friday reminds me of the first engine I ever took apart. 400 small block Chevy with a bunch of Crisco looking crap under the valve covers.

Ive been thinking of how Im going to install my engine. Your pics have convinced me that Im going to pull the front clip. It will take me twice as long, but should remove some headaches.

Nice truck. You are about $1000 in and probably a few hundred more for small parts, fluids, etc. (slippery slope), and you will have a nicer dent than most that I see around, including my own.
