No cruise control when motor hot?????
Newbie here, thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas. I have a 2001 V-10 on an E-450 chassis. Cruise works when the rig has just been started in the morning and driving down the interstate and will continue to work all day if I don't shut the motor down. However, if I shut the motor down, and then start it up again, cruise will not go on (and yes, I am turning the steering wheel control on, after start up the second time). There are no indicator lights on the dash at all in this model. Local Ford mechanic doesn't know what to do other than just changing parts out. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yes, they installed a fused wire harness into the CC power wire. Maybe that is failing whe it gets hot????
O.K. I'll do that. Thanks.

When they did my recall it failed after few months, apparently it was faulty harness(yes the one they did replaced the first time).
than ford put another one (different from the first one)and it works till now.
I think i saw a thread on it here "recall for a recall" or something like it.
Do a search might be worth .

Yes, I had the first recall done and then I also had the 'recall of the recall" done. I'm thinking that when I get the "no cruise condition", that I will just bypass the recall fused wiring harness for testing purposes and see if the CC works when hot. Does Ford have a web site for oddball problems like this? Or any other auto repair-based problem site?

I think you have found the best site for oddball problem solutions right here. The best part is that most of us are DIYers and most will post the results when they have found the fix for their oddball problems that the dealers couldn't find and/or repair at a reasonable cost.

Yes, Moto Mel, I hear you. I'll post up whatever I (we) find to be the culprit to hopefully help the next guy.

Update: Over Thanksgiving weekend, cruise would work fine on initial start-up. After driving a couple hours with cruise working fine, I stopped for gas and shut motor down. After start-up, cruise would not work. However, after about 10 minutes after start-up, cruise started working again. Whatever the culprit is, it is very temperature related. It was quite cool that Sunday after Thanksgiving (about 45 degrees outside), so
whatever compenent is causing problem, cooled quickly after getting on the road again. I haven't went back to local Ford dealer as I don't think they know what do to.?????? Any ideas are appreciated.

I have looked at and checked the above but nothing was oblivious. Also, no other electrical problems at all. I can't imagine it's anything to do with the clock spring, brake light switch or a hardwired component. As heat related as it is, it would seem to be a circuit board, diode or something somewhat sensitive that is overheating. I'm not really sure how the cc works on Fords. On Japanese cars, there is the cc controller and the actuater. I would think the culprit would be one of those but which one???
