Question help identifying

okay so im confused, i was reading that the 223 motors have the valve cover bolts that go through the valve cover, however my valve cover the bolts are all the way around the valve cover. i know thats not a good way check though. so now im confused, would anyone help me figure this out? and the casting numbers on the block are C3AE-6015 AC and the casting numbers on the head are C3AE 6090 A and the numbers on the head inside near where the headbolts are located are 3M10 thanks!!

C3 mean 1963. As far as valve covers I believe I read that Ford change from studs to bolts somewhere around 60. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

IIRC, the 223 had the intake/exhaust on the left side (drivers), where the 240/300 had it on the right. The 3M10 is a casting date, which means your head was cast on December 10, 1963, for the 1964 model year.

okay well my motor has the intake and the exhaust manifold on the drivers side so does that garantee that my engine is a 223? and if so then my engine is from a 1963 are parts interchangable from certain years to other years?

There are no guarantees with anything when talking about old engines, unless you want to tear it down to inspect and measure the internal parts. But it sounds like it most likely is a 223.
