This is only for those who have worn the EGA. The rest of you won't find it funny.
So there stood Robert Mullan in Tunn Tavern, tasked with raising the first 2 battalions of Marines. He walks up to a rather tough looking individual and starts talking to him about the newly formed Marines, about God, Country, Patriotism, and things such as that. He notices the fellows beer is almost empty and closes with, besides, everyone who joins tonight gets a free beer. And thus, the first recruit signed up. He was given his free beer and directed to a table in the rear to sit and wait for his fellow recruits.
A short time later another individual comes up to the table holding 2 beers. The first guy asks why he's got 2 beers and is told, that was my enlistment bonus. The first guy shakes his head in disgust and states, it wasn't like this back in the old Corps.

I have a famous relative who was a Marine in WWII but it's not about him only, it's about every Marine, living or not who has served our country. I thank them all.
