Hey just wondering if anyone knows of a pretty decent ignition set up on a 93 5.0l. Its in a 93 flareside I bought a couple months ago which come to find out only has 120k on it. (good enough in my book to build on!) the truck has been well taken care of I just wanna start with the critical wear parts that need to be replace anyway. I appreciate any input!

 

Short of replacing cap, rotor, wires and plugs, assuming it has been well taken care of and it's running good as it is, best advice is to leave the rest of the ignition system alone.

 

I hear ya. Just wondering what a reccomended brand is. I wanna go with something a little better than the old motorcraft gray stock stuff. Like MSD or something. I'm gonna start building the truck as soon as my body guy gets his shop back together (fire BIG fire) I haven't dealt a whole lot with the 5.0 engines so just wondering what they warm up to the best.

 

plugs: Autolite 25 or motorcraft equivalent

Wires: Ford Racing or taylor spiro pro are very nice. (There are other good brands too)

Dist Cap: Look for brass contacts

Coil: I would say either motorcraft or if you want aftermarket MSD or Crane.

None on here yet I just haven't had the time to snap any pics. hopefully in the next couple days I'll have all my trucks on here.

 

In terms of ignition modules(aka TFI module) the Ford parts are by far the most reliable of any available so don't bother changing that, and same goes for spark plugs the Motorcraft coppers are king. I'm not so crazy about Ford coils though and wires are a toss up but in terms of performance the high voltage Ford parts are more than adequate for a stock motor.

 

MSD is not a very good product

Just curious as to why a motorcraft coil may not be a good choice? I've always known them to last forever and have decent output.

 

I have had the other stuff in the past. My truck runs the best with Motorcraft parts. I would leave the ignition system stock, if the motor is stock or nearly stock. There is nothing wrong with the stock coil.
