At a minimum there are two cams for the mod motors, worst case there are four. Hence the high cost for cams.

i have the 351w with a c6 transmisison in my garage to go behind it. I have the computer for the Windsor as well. I wiould like to go carberated but at a different time perhaps ( when money permits it, one project at a time) i know i will need to move the cross member and the motor mounts...anyone else see any other problems with this?

im pretty sure a trombone was a brass instrument, lol...so there would be no reed. but anywho. I have found a 5.8l v8, i stripped all the efi crap off of it, intake everything. Swithing it back to an original 351w. All i am missing now is a carberater. i am going to try and run the same distributer on it but i dont know if that will work, i also found a c6 transmission that i am going to be putting behind it. Due to my torsion bars in the way, maneuvering the old tranny out is somewhat of a major pain. My cross member will still work to mount the tranny, i just have to drill some new holes where it will mount and wham bam thank you ma'am that should do it. I will have to put a hole in the floor board for the new stick to tgo through , that changes the 4 by gears. i know i need some new motor mounts, and the splines on the drive shaft dont match up, but thats an easy fix. dont know if they are going ot be to long or too short yet, but we will see once i get the tranny in there. if any one has any input on this project yet, let me know.

IMO the 5.8 is the way to go. A BB would be best if it were a mud truck, that's for sure, LOL!

I would keep it EFI as it should be easy to adapt (return style fuel system) and the ecu's aren't all that hard to wire up, especially since you have it. I don't know what the mounts look like in the F150, but the SD and Excursions had a mount that looks similar to the van mounts: two vertical studs. I would probably make my own, either using a bushing in dom and making the stand off and a plate to bolt to the engine, or use mustang 5.0 convertible mounts (or after market, the fully captured style) and make the frame side mount.

Good luck and I look forward to some pictures!

ya i might look into building my own brackets somehow, seems like it would be the easiest route right now.

I dont remember this build and Im too lazy to look back...

Why exactly are you wanting to put a 351w in place of a 5.4?

two reasons really. number one, i got this 5.8 for free from my brother in law, and was able to trade out the blown 5.4 for all the parts i need to carb it out. I am all about originality in my truck club, and i have yet to see a 97 with a 5.8 in it. (351W) also the 5.8 gets more power, and the c6 tranny is built a lot better,

well, we will see, i know the DOC was nice and you could build it up, but i bought this truck with like 199k on it, there was problem after problem, and even though i was still the fastest through the pits, i just didnt get that feeling you know. i used to have a 5.8 in a 94 and that truck felt way beefier. i dont know much about anything, i am a rookie at all this motor stuff. But the 5.8 was complete and free, andi needed a new motor. So thats what i went with. i could have rebuilt everything and put some new cams in it, but for time and money this kinda seemed like my route. one day when i make more ( get out the army, lol) ill probably through a beefed up 5.4 in it.
