What to look for in 04 F150

Hello all,

I am new here and seeking some advice. I am looking at an 2004 2wd F150 extended cab regular bed with the 5.4 engine. It has 56,000 miles on it and has quite a few options is there anything in particular that I need to look for mechanically or anything else in this model of truck.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I bought mine new, and I've been real happy with it.
The driver and passenger electric windows.

I changed the lamp in my cargo light and it didn't seal good when I put it back together so when it rained water got in.
It made it's way all the down to the kick panel.
I can't come up with anything that I'd call a defect.
I love it.

Chris

x2 on the electric window issues.
Other than that you should be fine at 56,000 mi, make sure the previous owner has taken care of scheduled maintenance and see if he has service records.

+1 to all of these. If your going through a dealer, get a Carfax from them and check to see if there has been any work done to the transmission, spark plugs etc. If you arent looking through a dealer, then get the vin and post around on forums. Usually someone has a connection that they can get a carfax for you.

Also, even though it is a 2wd, get down and look under the truck. look for caked on mud, rusted brake lines, etc. anything that would hint as to whether or not the truck has been mudded or abused in any way.

Get a dealer to run an OASIS report. Check the operation of all the windows. Listen to the engine for the phaser knock and exhaust manifold leaks. If you decide to buy from a dealer get them to change the plugs and give you the old ones.
