Question Fram WA8038 vs 6637?

I've wanted to do the intake mod for a while and while in my local Miejers spotted these on clearance for $17.00, normally $29.98. Went ahead and rigged a DIY after removing the stock box. WOW! What a difference and the filter I just removed was new. Noticeable difference in acceleration across the board. There was a little oil/dust film in the intake hose / metal tube. What are the turbo fins supposed to look like? Took some photos but don't think I can post them here yet. The Fram filter is washable per the box. All though smaller then the 6637 at 6 1/2 X 11 it seems to be moving much more air then the stock unit. Any input on this filter? Should I go clear the shelf before they are gone or replace with a 6637 when this one gets dirty? Thanks in Advance!! Love this site and all the helpful, knowledgeable people.

My truck has 231k, expect to keep it on the road to 500k.

Fordpride that doesn't sound to good. Looks like the corners of my fins are notched. Wasn't sure as they appear pretty uniform.....like factory cut. Sooooooo.....where'd the metal go that used to be on those nice smooth, rounded corners? Or don't I want to think about it?

Chicagodragon: That is the filter except the sponge rubber ends are bright orange not black. I'll try to get some photos up. Assume the gallery is here somewhere? You really want to see a DIY made out of sch 40 fittings I had laying on a shelf in the pole barn?

Maybe you could post the Fram Filter part number, then we could look for a picture and compare other information.

Thanks Chicagodragon. I know it looks a little rough but I have less then $35.00 into it. Will have to fab some kind of mount for the filter. It's currently zip tied the to battery tray brace. Box says: "You can wash the Washable long life air filter as often as you want for like-new performance or a minimum of every 12,000 miles." And "Designed to be washed 20 times." My concern is filtration quality. Doesn't give any info on micron size, flow rate, cfm, etc on the box. I'll crate another album and post the turbo fins.
