Headrest DVD players

I am getting ready to order my new 2011 Powerstroke, and the last thing I am kicking around is the integrated headrest DVD players. Anybody have these? How well do they work? Any cool features I should know about?

One thing I am worried about is the ability for a potential thief to see them and break into my truck since they are so obvious. Do the screens flip around so they are hidden, or are they always exposed? How obvious are they to see in the black lariat interior with tinted windows?

Thanks for the input!

I had them done by an aftermarket vendor (the same vendor my dealer uses). They work great. I had mine also wired through one of the upfitter switches so that we have the option of using the wireless headphones or playing through the car stereo.

I had my rear windows (sides and back) tinted limo black. You can't see the headrests at all unless you put your face right against the window.

Nice. My Wife got rid of her Odyssey and bought a 2011 Volvo XC60. Neither of us has TV's anymore and we have a 4 year old and a 12 year old. This may be an option although the install/costs I are probably pretty high huh?

They didn't break out the quote for labor separate from the DVD's. But, they are full replacement headrests, so if you are good with wiring it's probably not that difficult. I'm not, so I had them do it.

I like the idea of wiring them to the upfitters. Did you do this or did the vendor? If you did, how did you do it and how hard was it?

The vendor did it. I think it was approximatley $50 for them to do that part. They had to add something called a "master blaster" to amplify the sound. Sounds great.

I owned a 2010 f-150 for about 45 days before I had to go back to the superduty and bought a 2011 f-250 King Ranch. I installed aftermarket headrest with dvds already built in the f-150. Very simple since the leather seats had zippers for access to the heating elements. All that had to be done was tap onto the fuse box and run a power wire below to console to the rear. Both headrests had seperate dvds so the kids could watch seperate movies (with wireless earphones) or the same movie through the radio with a built in fm modulator. Worked great but kids still fought about movie choice. The ONLY PROBLEM is the angle of the non factory headrest makes them useless for head support. You can also buy them with zippered covers so that potential thieves cannot easily see them. Checkout www.onfair.com for options.
