You can soak it in a little Kroil or Berryman's carb cleaner, don't beat on anything, if you warp the mating surfaces it will leak really bad.
The good news is that those carbs are everywhere in junkyards - so if something gets damaged they are easy to replace cheaply.
LOL lucky enough for me, my first instinct isn't to beat it. If it doesn't come apart fairly easily I find someone to tell me what I'm doing wrong. And thats actually why I wanted to work on an old truck. I wanted to learn to wrench on something that parts can be easily and cheaply acquired.
Old trucks are a constant source of wrenching! I doubt I ever had a week where something wasn't requiring attention on my rigs. Now with my Jeep and Ranger, things don't give me much trouble and my tools just hang out waiting dutifully for the next repair.
Somebody had rattle canned mine before I tore it apart. Looks new and runs great now.
Heck, the Edelbrock on the 'stang was purchased from a guy in Texas for $50. Cleaned all the rust out of it, shined her up, and its been working great for the last five years.
I'm gonna do that to mine, think everything is going to be pink... maybe purple. Purple would probably look better. I'll turn this into a chick forum before you know it.
