Ford factory rim chrome plastic lug/hub caps

I have a 2000 excursion, i run the chrome clad rims in the summer with the plastic chrome centers that cover the lug nuts and hubs, the fronts have openings for the manual hub dials.. well the chrome clad ones with the centers fit nice and theres not much of a space between the front locking hub and the chrome plastic piece

i do have warn after market hubs

well today i put my aluminum factory mags on, with my studdded tires and when i put the chrome plastic cover on the front, im concerned because i have a 1/4 gap around the hub now and am afraid that area will load up with snow.. is this an issue for others? and how have you addressed it? im thinking of leaving the plastic chrome covers off the front. but they looks good so i would like to keep them on.

help.
