Not entirely true...
They paid back the TARP money using another government loan... It was a marketing ploy because so many otherwise customers wouldn't buy Great Mistake vehicles after they took the money in the first place.

To the OP: Ford's don't have a sideways vagina on the grill for starters.

With the new GM trucks, if you get in a rearend collision the center of the frame buckles causing the truck to be totaled... crumplw zone i guess???

It wasn't my intent to start anything, just poking a little fun......... I personally think that GM products are junk. I just wonder how many MORE people would have lost jobs and benefits if GM didn't take that money? I don't agree with us bailing them out but I hate to see the downward spiral of soo many hard working people lose everything due to poor managment and greed no matter the brand. My soapbox just collapsed, guess I'm done

GM motors have always been notoriously low on torque in the lower RPMs for their size. look at the 5.3. Comparable size to the 5.4 but makes less torque and way higher in the RPM band. They have consistently used larger bore, shorter stroke than the comparable Ford engine. Sure that may allow bigger valves and higher RPMs, but that is not what I want or need in a truck. Give me the low end grunt with some decent HP to keep me going on the highway.
Also, in the last 5 years or so, Ford has ranked consistently higher in initial quality as well as higher trade in value. I am sure there are more quality rankings out there too.

I've only had my F150 for a few weeks, but a couple things I've noticed so far:

My 06 Silverado LS (very inexpensive model) had dual climate control. My '10 XLT ($40k) does not.
The shifter on the new GM trucks is hideous. The rubber boot on the shifter-to-steering column interface is ridiculously ugly on the F150. It's embarassing.
The obvious difference is the power-to-weight ratio, but this is a heavy truck, and my Chevy was light (reg cab long box).

That's your opinion and your welcome to it. My 6.0 has been more reliable then any of my dad's porsches and he doesn't buy used, so don't blame previous owner on that.

I would actually prefer a SL600 to an audi or bmw. Just don't like the looks of those, but in the end even though I could afford those vehicles they aren't me and they won't fit my lifestyle.

Let us expand the topic a little. Since I started this post I can do it... When you get a truck (in my mind at least) it is for work and moving your butt around. So with chevy/gmc having thin skin on their newer trucks It is an issue that will need to be addressed. Then people are going to europe models. They have just as many issues as any other vehicles. What are they? I have lived over there and They buy as many Japanese cars as we do!

Really!!! I'm going to run to the dealer and get my F150 with the manual trans right now.

But seriously I like the Fords myself but I know plenty of people who are happy with their GM/Chevy trucks, there really is a lot of personal preference involved.

Technically speaking their new auto does allow for manual shifting and from what I'm reading you are as in much control as you would be with a pure manual tranny when you have it in the M gear. Just no clutch.

It's still an auto that is being shifted manually, my reasons for wanting a manual have more to do with dependability and reduced parasitic power losses in the tranny itself than a macho desire to do my own shifting.

Trannys have come along way in that regard. It took over 500 HP for a year about 80k miles hauling loads ~16k before the TS started slipping on my 06.
