Head gaskets and Studs, To resurface or not to resurface heads
I have been going back and fourth for the last two weeks looking and searching for info on 6.0l heads. i know ford says not to surface them but others say they do? Their seems to be little piston to valve clearance from factory. Not looking for anyone to say what is right or wrong but what has everyone been doing whle doing head jobs, are they cleaned, checked and reinstalled, or having them resurfaced. I have a stock 04 250 6.0l with 120kmi and want to do arp studs and gaskets next weekend while adding turner and egr delete, i have no head gasket leaks yet, want to do them before i do.
My cousins truck that we did same work to a month or 2 back had heads at maching shop, they removed, .0011" off heads, recessed valves deeper and cut valve stems down to orginal installed height, and new seals. And so far running good. Some people said now valves are deeper in head and less harden material and are more prone to cracking, also was told that moving valve in heads loosens tention on valve spring if springs are not shimmed.
Not sure just looking for advice and or suggestions.
Thanks,
Peter

Get the heads checked at least. That way if you have a warping issue, you'll know about it and then decide whether you want to or not.
I did all this work to a replacement engine I just put in my truck, had the replacement heads checked and sure enough they were out .004 and I had them decked.
Now, I have this motor in my truck and its working great. I didn't get the valves sunk or guides modified as I was told by the head shop that they have taken as much as .008 off 6.0L heads before without any issues.

I guess my other question is, in my 04 f250 with no HG leaks, whats the chance that they are warped, has anyone had any experiance with removing heads from a truck that was not leaking and during cleaning and inspection found them to be within the .002" tolerance. Just trying to prepair myself if i would have to replace them or not?
