Bumper Rust 2012 F250
Problem 2/08/13
OK I have a 2012 F250 with rust on the bumper for the second time I took it back to the dealership. The first time they said ford told them to clean rust off and reseal it, they did it looked great. Not 6 months later I have more rust on it bleeding through the chrome. The dealer won't help because ford said this is not covered and I will have to wait until the rust perforates the metal or something to that affect. I am going to post my situation on every website/forum I can find because this is unbelievable to me. I spend over 30K for a truck and the bumper has rust bleeding trough in several spots. I am seriously starting to regret my first Ford purchase. Don't get me wrong the dealer is great and has done a wonderful job telling me it's not them it's Ford! So now I'm going to tell everyone!
Ford’s Resolution and what I am going to do.
Ford relations just called and told me there is nothing they can do because the situation is not covered under the rust warranty. So Rust bleeding through chrome on a bumper less than one year old is OK. No really that is what Ford relations told me. I bet I can re-post this at least 10 times a day on many different websites for a very long time! It is a matter of principle that Ford will not replace my bumper because of their faulty chrome plating. I bet the bumpers came from Mexico, I'm going to have to check on that. I'll keep you posted on my research.

If the chromed surface has failed (peeling), you may have a point. If you have tiny pits that are creating a rust stain, then use 0000 steel wool and lightly buff the rust stain away, and then apply car wax.
Chrome plating has never been thinner, so there's not much you can do beyond that.

That is what the dealer did and within 4 months it was back. I can keep doing that but the area with rust stains is around both fog lights and the other openings in the bumper. I guess my issue with this is we know what the problem is and ford won't replace my bumper. It is a 2012, this should not be happening this soon. I thought about taking it off blasting the chrome off and having it sprayed with Linex.

Another Rusty F250 Front Chrome Bumper
I have the same issue with my front bumper. Ordered truck new and delivered in Oct 2011; just over 18K miles on it. Dealer tells me to bring it in and they have a process by which they can correct it. After reading your post, I'm hoping I'm not going to have the same problem. I was originally told the only option was to replace the bumper.....but after Ford saw the pictures, they decided to do this fix. I fully intend on questioning exactly what process they are going to use, how it's going to make sure it doesn't come back and also ask them if there was a flaw in the original chroming process on this bumper, am I to understand that I have to make repeated trips to the dealer to fix these (if they happen)? This is also my first Ford truck purchase and I'm not overly impressed. Had to have the transmission completely taken apart and put back together due to a leak which was at the 4600 mile point. Had to fight like the dickens with Ford Motor Company to put an extended warranty on the drive train after that because I just didn't trust it. They came through, but it wasn't easy. If Ford has a problem with rusty chrome bumpers, why not just come clean and fix the problem altogether?

if a new truck has a bumper to bumper 3 year warranty, why isn't ford replacing the bumpers? I know ever year vehicle manufactures are using cheaper and cheaper products but a year old truck should not be rusting, PERIOD. Looks like Ford has turned into GM now with not replacing warranty parts......
