good deal?
Im seriously considering getting a power stroke diesel in the next couple days to a week. Ive found a couple that i think id like to have but im wondering if they are even worth looking at. the first is a 2005 f250 xl ext. cab long bed 6.0 power stroke with 113k miles, but its 2wd and its 11000 dollars. the other is a 2006 f250 xlt regular cab long bed 6.0 power stroke with 163k miles, but its also 2wd and its 8700 dollars. i drove both and they both drive very well but im completely new to diesels as well as fords. miles dont scare me so much as the not so good things ive heard about the 6.0 diesels. anyone with any advice would be a huge help. thanks in advance!

6.0s right now have a very bad name. (sickliter) (sick o) They are like a pure bread horse, very fast and powerful, but you run them to hard, they will break a leg. That being said, If you get one for the right price, It can be a good truck. If you want to just buy a truck and drive the **** out of it, stay far away from any ford from 03 to 2011!!!!!(note I'm a true blue ford guy) I will walk before I drive any other make!!!!. But if you have time and some extra money, and some wrenchin' skills, then a 6.0 can save you alot of money over a $65000 new truck. but be warned, then can bite you in the ***.

My truck is a 2004 and prior to my new profession I was a mechanic for a long time which afforded me the mechanical aptitude to tinker with this pig. Along with that and this site I have managed to maintain my vehicle in a running state. With that said, as the above poster mentioned....it is a great truck but as soon as you introduce anything out of the norm (tuner) it will start with issues.....buy a 6.4 or a cummins buddy. unless you are willing to spend alot of time fixing the FUBAR mistakes international made.

Neither of those deals sound all that great. I would probably try to find a truck with a single owner who has all the records. It might be worth a few grand more. Unless you are good at fixing trucks, repairs on these tend to be thousands not hundreds of dollars. Mine has been good and I have no complaints

And from my experiance with my 6.0 from the weekend after I bought it i have put in over 4500 dollars in repairs...upgrades and not included in that...I still have a oil cooler, and vgt/turbo problem and a heating problem in my truck...I love ford and I love my truck..but man sometimes I just want to kick myself for getting it. IMHO I would say if you are going to get a fixaliter, make sure you are prepared to replace things, find out if anything has been replaced such as egr coolers, turbos, injectors, or if they are all still stock...Some cases you will get a good one, others you will have to throw some money at it to make it work...If you do get one also do preventive measures to make the truck last...Do regular oil changes, coolant flushes, put a coolant filter on, bullet proof egr coolers/ or egr deletes.
As any truck you take care of the truck and she'll usually take care of you.
