Lets Talk about milling the 6.0s heads...

This question is for all you guys out there who have already studded your 6.0.

How much did you have your heads milled?
What did it cost?
What kind of difference (if any) have you noticed?
Would you go less or more if you had it to do over?
And what is the max that can safely be taken off without flirting with danger?

Thanks Guys

Heads

I just had mine done to .005 a couple of weeks ago. Prior, I talked to guys at a machine shop that Bulletproof diesel referenced, and the guys said they had a notation that .008 has been done, and they'd be comfortable up to .010. To do my set of heads something like $250ish, which included having the intake hot tanked. Only difference I notice is that truck so far doesn't puke...but I have yet to put too many miles on the gal. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Mike

Did mine and took off .005 also. Truck runs great, but did allot of other stuff also at the time. Think I paid around 400. Had a couple of valves replaced as well as all of the seals and a valve grind. They tanked my intake also.

.008 is really the max you want to go. Any more and you can start to have valve to piston interference. There is a spec. for head face to tip of valve height that I don't recall off the top of my head. I do know people that have had the valve's recessed into the heads .020 to gain more clearance but it might be more expensive than buying new heads to do so.

You mill the head until flat, anything over .008 as partsman noted, they are junk. You can go more if you don't mind replacing pistons down the road.
