Need help wiring voltage regulator on 63 F100

I have a 1963 F100 2x4 with a 292 V8. It has a 30 amp generator and a voltage regulator. I have looked at the wiring diagram for the 1964 F100 on www.TOCP.com but it only shows 1 wire coming from the battery to the regulator. I have 3 wires coming from the battery. I have a black yellow wire which comes from the negative terminal of the battery, a brownish orange wire (no idea what this is), and a yellow wire (horn I think). The generator has 3 wires. A red wire, a brown wire, and a orange wire. There is also a condenser mounted next to the regulator which has a black wire that connects to the regulator. The regulator has 3 posts. Can anyone tell me how to wire this?

Next to one of the post "field" should be stamped on the Gen body. The small terminal. That goes to the post marked feild on the REG.
The bigger post on the gen is the Armature. that goes to the ARM post on the reg.
A wire that is hot all times goes to the batt post on the reg.Do not get that hot wire from the Ign switch.
I cannot tell you which wires are which on your regulater since different manufacturers made them different. They SHOULD BE marked.
And I dont remember were the capacitor goes
I would think the red wire is the arm wire since that is the charging wire. And the brown the feild. The arm wire should be bigger than the feild

Thanks for the help. In your post you mention "A wire that is hot all times goes to the batt post on the reg. Do not get that hot wire from the Ign switch." I believe that mine is coming from the starter solenoid. Could this be an issue? Where should the hot wire come from? I have to start the truck by shorting the starter solenoid so I know there is an issue with either the starter solenoid or ignition, not sure which. Can this cause the generator light to come on? I hooked the brown wire coming from the starter solenoid to the ground. The truck starts but the generator light stays on. I took the generator and voltage regulator to a reputable rebuilder and they both tested good. Any ideas where I should start troubleshooting?

This is one of two threads the OP has typed on this subject. Look at post #6 in the other thread and read how he hooked everything up.

Basically, what he did was: (1) Positive battery cable directly to starter. (2) Starter cable to one side of relay. (3) Negative battery cable to other side of relay.

It's no wonder he's having a problem.

This is great. I really appreciate all of the support from the members of this forum. Just to be clear I am not the one who wired this truck. My mom was the original owner of the truck and she gave it to me when my father passed away. She had someone work on the truck a few years back and maybe they wired it this way. Apparently it has been wired this way for years. The truck is stock. Let me see if I have this correct.

1. Go from the + terminal of the battery to the "S" post on the starter relay. This is the big red wire coming directly off the battery, correct?
2. Go from the "I" post on the starter relay to the starter.
3. There are 2 posts on the starter. Does the other wire connect to the ground?
4. Go from the "S" post on the starter relay to the "BATT" post on the voltage regulator.
5. I have another wire coming out of the fire wall which runs all the way to the voltage regulator. I imagine that it is coming from the ignition. Can't really tell what color the wire use to be but it looks yellow. Any idea what post on the regulator it should connect to? I believe it was connected to the "A" post on the regulator. Does this sound correct?
6. If you look at this ignition wiring diagram, / 1964_03.gif, for a 1964 F series they have the "I" post on the starter relay wired to the + terminal of the battery. This confuses me because all of the other diagrams on this site have the "S" post wired to the + battery terminal.

Should the main + battery wire, the big red one, be wired directly to the starter relay and nowhere else?

I don't suppose you guy’s live in GA. If you want to make a road trip I can put you up for the night.

Thanks again for all the help.

You are correct Bill if he had it hooked up this way at the start relay it would be a direct short there. If it did manage to engage it probably would arc the contacts out inside of it. Hope he can decifer the wiring diagram I posted for the regulator hookup. Ill see if there is a pictorial in the shop manual for starter and cable from battery routing when I get home from work tonight.

Thanks Chaser and Bill! I have 2 questions question which have yet to be addressed. If you or Bill has the time could you please look at these? I really do appreciate your support!

Question # 1:
If you look at the ignition wiring diagram, / 1964_03.gif, in the link that you sent me they have the "I" post on the starter relay wired to the + terminal of the battery. The Generator wiring diagram, / 1964_07.gif, and the starter wiring diagram, / 1964_08.gif, have the “S” post of the starter relay wired to the + terminal of the battery. Should both the “I” post and the “S” post of the starter relay be wired directly to the + terminal of the battery?

Question # 2:
Also, I have another wire coming out of the fire wall which runs all the way to the voltage regulator. I imagine that it’s coming from the ignition. Can't really tell what color the wire use to be but it looks yellow. If you look at the ignition wiring diagram, / 1964_03.gif, in the link that you sent me it shows a yellow wire going to the voltage regulator but it does not show the actual connection to the voltage regulator. Any idea what post on the regulator it should connect to? I believe it was connected to the "A" post on the regulator. Does this sound correct?

You're not looking at it right. The S & I posts are the small terminals on the selonoid. Print these diagrams so you can look at them one at a time. Use the starter diagram to do the starter. Use the generator diagam to wire the generator. Quit putting them both together to do the job. Wiring diagrams can be real confusing. They can also be real E Z if you dont over think them. And alot of times you will find your truck is not always the same as a wiring diagram. There is alot of variations to do the same thing. And some times it is easier to pull it all out and start over.

#1 looking at starter relay in wire diag. S&I are 2 small terminals. L&R side of relay is 2 large posts.
Lge term on r/s has cable from batt. and small wire going to reg batt term. The hot wire that needs to go to the reg.
This is according to the wiring diag you are looking at
Get a multimeter order test light find out what that wire does. Hot all the time, hot with ign sw on or hot when you turn the ign sw ?
Were you at in ga ? I just moved from there. I still have a 706 area code
