A 'New' Truck at The Ranch

Finally got my hands on this truck after wanting it for the past 10 years or so. It's beat up and rusty, but it runs good, and the lights all work along with the heater and wipers!! Even though you won't make the best time, it's so cool to drive in an old 4x4 like this!! Thought some of you guys would like to check it out!! I told my wife that the boys needed something to learn to drive in 10-12 years from now....LOL!!! Who knows, could make a good restoration project someday??!!

Nice truck! Did it come from Wahoo? It looks a lot like one I tried to buy in high school with no luck.

That is a great looking truck! I can see why you kept track of it for so long.

Thanks for the compliments guys!! Only guys like us would appreciate an old truck like this!!!

AMK - Yes, the truck is originally from Wahoo. It used to sit a few blocks NE of Pizza Hut. I'm assuming it is the same truck you were trying to get?? Previously, you had the same luck I used to have!!

gquinn - From what I gathered, the x-case is a Dana/Spicer 24 (cast iron, gear driven). Actually, not that bad of a x-case, but parts are getting harder to find. The engine is currently a 302. I guess it was fab'd in the truck sometime in the late 70's. The original owner of the truck lives a few miles away and has the original 292 so I'll probably try to get it from him. Although, if I ever did it, I would probably put some type of FE in it!!!

Pat - I am also blocked out of EBay, Summit etc. Like I said, thank goodness some of the more important sites are open!!

Here's a little bit I found out about it!! Also read there was about 1800 or so of them made, which seems like quite a few, but not really when you consider how many 70's 4x4 were made, yet, you don't see that many of them on the road anymore!!

Came in at home to check out the truck. What a beast! I think that would make a great project Jamey! Hey, what's that sitting in the building behind it in the first pic? Looks like a bumpside!

Yes Pat, that is a bumpside!! I believe the truck is a 69?? It is a half ton 2wd. This is the truck that I checked out the doors and hood on for you when you were looking for some body pieces. I have it in the shop now because I am pulling the T-18 trans so I can use that trans when converting my 77 Hi Boy to a manual. While pulling the trans, I am going to look the truck over a little more closely and see what is usable on it (if anything). Once I pull the tranny, I really don't have any other use for it so I'll probably see if anyone wants to take it off my hands. I'm assuming it has a 9" Ford rearend?? so I thought maybe someone would want it for that??

Popped the hood on the truck this weekend to check the oil and discovered that it is not a 302 in it, it already has an FE!! I'm guessing 352 because it has the old school gold valve covers, and a 2 barrel?? I was pretty dang excited!! Maybe I'll have to put all of my FE performance parts to use on it??!!

Boy that looks like my neighbors truck. What a great find. Glad you got her bought. Dad had a 64 250 2wd he bought new with a 292 in it. I always loved that truck. Wish we still had it. Did you get your flatbed truck sold? If I ever get down your way. I am going to have to stop in an take a closer look.
