What are the 5 best mileage improvements for 460

Might want to specify what mods the SD doesn't adapt well to.
Sell it or buy an additional vehicle to compensate
Exhaust with high flow/no catalytic converters with a good free flowing muffler...for that 7.5 I'd be tempted to run a 3 inch single out the back
Tune up
Raise tire pressure
A good wax/buff job
Intake
I believe Banks has some kinda kit for the 460...might look into that.

All smart answers aside. The usual included headers, free flowing intake and my favorites, Ditch weight anywhere you can find and keep tire pressure up. I ganed 1mpg but cutting out my exhaust for a cat-less 3" glasspack to open and keeping the tires aired up.
BUT that 1mpg made it 11 lol, better than 10 I guess.
Guys have proven mpg by altering the ECU with a non-sequential bank injector firing system. instead of one bank firing all injectors for that side of the motor, an injector will only fire for a cylinder at a time. Even then you'd be hard to get 13 or 14.

I wasnt being smart its the most cost effective way to do it a 460 with efi doesnt have alot of play with them and anything thing you can do you will shell out some major $$$ out side of exhaust big blocks arnt cheap and neither are the parts. If you go to a diff ecu then your budget is the limit but when it all comes down to it theres not alot you can you can do to improve your mpg its a big block after all.

Going diesel is not cost effective considering how much more it costs than gasoline. Considering what it would cost to convert to a diesel, that can buy a lot of gasoline. A Cummins 6BT with P-pump will outlast just about any engine out there though. Great engine, I had one. Too bad it came in a Dodge.

In my own experience, I've seen MPG improvements by:
1) Not driving it. I drive a Focus as a DD now.
2) Driving a consistent 65 mph. With 3.55 gears on 265/70 R16 tires, I get my best mileage at 65 mph; this also ties into driving routes with no stops. It takes too much fuel to accelerate 3+ tons.
3) Straight pipe 3" single exhaust. No cat. Almost doubled my mileage (6->11: the cat was clogged). I haven't gotten any yet, but everybody will tell you that a good set of long tube headers will be key to rounding out a new exhaust system for the 460.
4) Rotor, cap, wires, spark plugs, new injectors, & remove air intake horns (aka regular maintenance). I also saw an nice improvement in idle quality from this step along with increased high RPM horsepower from the new injectors. Hopefully I'll have some extra cash soon so that I can try the 6liter tuneup soon. I've heard it'll help quite a bit.
I guess I don't have 5 items, but I am going to try adding the lower valance to the front bumper (once again: cash permitting). I don't expect to see any significant difference, but all the little changes should add up.

A F-250/350 with a 460 is not a daily driver............Its a piece of heavy equipment. Do not expect to make the mpg bearable for such duty, its just not going to happen.
Consider a Kia to drive when you don't need the truck.
The only thing I have found that helped even very slightly was going to long tube headers, took me from 11.5 to 12.5.........that is after I quit exploring the new found performance bump.

You guys are too funny----if I want mileage I drive my Geo Tracker or my car. They just can't haul my camper though.
I live in eastern Oregon and there are no emission requirements here. The air horns have already been removed. The exhaust system is in the plan of mods. Who makes a good single cat back?
Does it help mileage to advance the cam(straight up) to increase the torque and HP at a lower RPM? Did this help mileage? Have you tried a cam that worked with SD?
The F250 has stock tires on it with 4.10 and a E4OD.
I worked and supervised a truck shop for many years and can't tolerate diesel smoke anymore, so no diesel truck for me.
The F250 has 110k on it and engine just seems a little doggy, that is why I'm hoping for some tips from this great site.

There are very few cams for the 460 that are compatible with the SD EFI.....Have you tried bumping the base timing up from the stock 10deg to 12 to 14?.......Yours may have slipped below 10 for some reason, check it out......just be sure to pull the SPOUT plug before timing.
I am with you, operated heavy diesel equipment for years, I cannot stand the stench of diesel anymore.
