My brother in law has a 90 Ranger 4x4 club cab with 2.9 liter and 5 speed and has 175000 miles on it, just bought it. Doesn't use a drop of oil in 2500 miles and has plenty of power.

Convinced me to start looking for a Ranger for myself...

Tell your brother to NEVER let the 2.9 overheat since they are known for cracking heads, otherwise a great engine.

Howdy - I figured my first post should be something like this, so here goes...

Just checked and saw that I have 329,747 on my 1992 Regular Cab, 2wd Ranger. 24 of those were on it when I rolled if off the lot in June of 1992.

2.3l 4cyl w/ 5-speed tranny that has only had the following work done:
  • Clutch assy. replaced in 1993 after pressure plate fingers got into clutch disc.
  • Plugs changed in 1996 @ 100k miles after a noticable decrease in mileage.
  • Replaced clutch / slave cyl / t.o. bearing in 1997 due to leakage.
  • Transmission replaced in 1998 @ 100,500 miles after it exploded.
  • EGR sensor & Valve replaced in 2000.
  • Timing belt replaced in 2001 after it broke.
  • Plugs & Wires replaced in 2001.
  • Water Pump replaced in 2002.

It's been in Alabama about 4.5 years of its life, and Pennsylvania for about 7. It's been driven through nearly every state East of the Mississippi, except for Maine, NH, VT.

That's pretty much it, and it still gets about 20mpg without ever having been rebuilt or torn down, engine-wise.
