Miles on your ranger...list
'86 Ranger 2.3/5.0 2wd
Had 120k on the 2.3....then swaped in the 5.0 and put another 54k on it for a grand total of 174,345miles without a hitch. Body is rusted to hell...but I trusted it to get from Nebraska to Jersey. Only downfall...costs a cool $900+ in fuel to drive the 1600miles to get to Jersey...8 to 10mpg on the 5.0
'88 Ranger 2.9 4x4
182,521miles and needs the usual valve cover and pan gaskets.....but runs like a dream! Don't use a drop of oil, or at least as far as I know

On my second Ranger, bought new April 2000, 4.0 4x4 Supercab, 61000 miles.
Firestones replaced free with Goodyears. Bone stock and troublefree otherwise.
Fixing the IAC this week, with info I found here yesterday.
I couldn't understand why it used to honk when sometimes dropping to idle last spring, when almost warm.
Went looking for the answer the other day to why it won't always start first try lately. Found it here, thanks!
First Ranger bought new leftover 1988.
2.9L 5sp Manual 4WD Supercab.
200,000 almost troublefree miles.
3 sets of tires, two sets of U joints, fuel tank rusted at edge seam due to dirt dropping between bed and cab onto seam of tank, and holding rainwater there. Fixed by local radiator/tank shop for $100. Fuel pressure regulator replaced by shop once, after running fuel tank dry twice in a row, and sucking junk up.
Water pump once. Never opened engine at any time.
Best vehicle I ever owned.
Traded for new 2000 Ranger.

I had a 1991 2wd 2.3 5sp with 239,000 miles on the oringal motor. I always change the oil and used slick 50. I would still be driving the truck however, The truck was hit in the rear. The insurance company did not want to fix it they consider it a total lost why bent frame other than general maintance This motor ran great. I just purchased a 2003 2.3 5sp ranger. Great liitle truck and motor combo. Thanks Aypranger

'98 4x4,XLT,ext cab, 5 spd manual with 41k miles. The A/C condensor was replaced about 35k miles(just missed the 3 year warranty ) because it rusted out due to the insulation that held in the moisture(nice engineering!). Had the door ajar problem(fixed w/wd-40). There has been an occasional hard starting problem lately(not with me but with wife) and I don't know if a sensor is going out or what. Other than a couple problems it's been a great truck. I have a K&N panel filter in it and Amsoil synthetic in the motor and transmission(tranfer case coming up next). I change the oil filter every 6k and the oil every 12k. It does'nt use any oil at all! I did get some Michelin tires(LTX AT) for the recall(great tires!). I must say the 4WD works great in snow and hauling stuff uphill. Next maintenance items will be plugs, shocks, new brake fluid.

1995 XLT 5-Speed 3.0l V6
208,765 miles
replaced:
clutch @ 180,000
brakes as needed
shocks as needed
fluids as needed
i'm on the third set of tires. the second set was still pretty new when i added the current 31" tires and 15" wheels. like the forums say, 31" tires will fit a stock xlt with no lift! i will be lifting it 4-5", though. (33" tires, then)
There have been no other problems leading to major parts replacement. The latest issue, however, is a water leak from some tube sticking 2" out from my firewall near the bottom. a previous leak was fixed by replacing the water shutoff valve.
