Personally I am not trying to change your mind, just understand that based on the postings that I have read on this forum over the past few years there are few and far between that deal with topics of this nature.
Charlie, we are all entitled to our opinion but I think it is in poor taste to tell a newcomer on FTE to go to another site because he want to do a total restoration. I, too, am interested in his efforts. I would never do it to my truck but I am a stocker and I am glad he chose to keep his truck stock. I am a history teacher, I like antiques and I guess that is why I keep my truck as stock as I can.

Dustin, Go for it and Good Luck! One request: you ahve to post pictures!

OK guys let's get real, it's not in "poor taste" to let a guy know that he is drilling a dry hole...it's nothing personal and it's definitely not condescending to tell the truth. As for transam525 being a newcomer....he's been on the forum since May 2001! Here's what he's asked for:
"This is where your help is requested. I'm looking for any pictures of a 1957-1960 Ford truck depicting any of these aforementioned markings. Historic assembly line photos would be ideal, however any pictures or descriptions of your personal truck's markings would also be greatly appreciated. I understand each plant's markings may differ, however I'm after attention to detail rather than what might have been correct for the San Jose plant vs. another. Additionally, any assembly line photos in general would be much appreciated. I thank you for your help in advance."
He has asked for technical support not moral support. If you guys really want to help you would get him the info he requested or point him in the right direction.

Thanks for the pictures. The markings definitely changed after the unibody trucks began production. For the 1957-1960 models, they marked the driver's side of the cowl. Mine is marked with a "B4". I'm not sure what it stood for, but it will be replicated after body paint.

I was sure glad to see that you were going to keep the orange peel in your paint after it is painted. As a professional painter for a number of years, I had people that were "restoring" their cars and trucks, bring them to me, ask me to take pictures of markings and overspray patterns, etc.... and before they left my shop they were asking what type of clear would I be using or how soon after it is painted can it be sanded and buffed. I'm sure there are a number of people on this site that got to see these vehicles when they were new, and in a lot of instances, fit and finish were not that good.

The request for show car finishes on a restoration just drove me nuts. Just my take on the restoration subject. I am a darksider, but hats off to you and your restoration.
