Just bought a 1979 Bronco Ranger XLT
When it rains it pours. lol. I recently just got a 76 Highboy and a 77 Ranger XLT 2wd for the body. Now I bought a 1979 Bronco Ranger XLT. I mainly bought it for parts. I pick it up next Thursday so we'll see how this works out. It does have a good title and supposedly ran 4 years ago.
It has nearly perfect condition black dash pad and door panels (I did not see any damage to any of that). The door panels and glove box door have the wood paneling. It also has the sport steering wheel and factory front tow hooks. It has the filler panel for the rear bumper. Also has front and rear sway bars. My 1977 F-150 does not have sway bars. It seems to drive just fine but I would like to swap those over.
It also has a black dash and the all silver instrument cluster like I like. My dads 1979 F-250 was like this and I made my 1977 this way. I painted my metal dash black and swapped in the all silver instrument cluster. I've somehow picked up 5 of those all silver instrument clusters this month!
It also come with spare hood, fenders, doors, core support, several grilles (incl 1977 grille), radiator and bunch of other misc stuff including an incomplete set of the thinner body line trim that does not have the black insert.
A local junkyard here is paying $200 per ton in scrap. I'm guessing this thing weighs about 4500 lbs? My cousin just scrapped a 1986 Bronco and got $465. A friend just scrapped a stripped down 1991 Blazer and got $300. I am paying $450 for this Bronco and all parts.
I am going to take any parts I want and try to get it running. After its running I could keep it as a toy, part it out and keep the axles and transfer case for spares. Or I could sell it whole if it runs good. I'm not really sure yet.

I'm not sure if the AC works. My 1977 F-150 is a non-AC truck and I would really like to have it. I'm getting a dealer installed air set up from my dad and I'm leaning toward that since I won't have to cut the hole in the firewall.
It was really weird how I found it. Some guy just called my cell and asked if I wanted a 79 Bronco. lol. I found out after the phone call that a friend of mine gave him my number but it was kind weird at first. Its only about 6-7 miles from my house as well.
He wanted an offer above scrap price, I tried $350 and got a quick no to that. I was kind of on the fence about another vehicle but when I seen the interior pieces, sway bars and tow hooks I was hooked. lol. And theres no way I can loose money on it.
If the engine and transmission are in good shape I wont scrap it. I still dont know what I'll do with it but I'm for sure gonna take off all the nicely optioned pieces and put less desireable stuff back on it.
I'll probably have to hang onto the vice grips, those are the old school made in the USA style! lol. Vice grips were made in Nebraska since 1928 or so and in the last few years they move the plant to CHINA!

The Bronco's bumper brackets are what's hard to find, since they are different from the F100/350's.
The steering wheel looks like the D7OZ3600A Sport Steering Wheel, but it's kinda hard to make out the emblem from the posted pics...to see if it's genuine Ford...or not.
There were at least seven different emblems, because the same steering wheel also fits 1977/79: LTD II, Ranchero, Cougar, Granada/Monarch, Thunderchicken and Continental Mark V.
Since factory Installed Speed Control was not available w/this steering wheel, one had to have the dealer installed speed control kit, if they wanted this feature. The control's mounted on the turn signal lever.
Blown 331: Since this is a Bronco Ranger, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it has a TILT wheel. You know how it's operated, doncha?
With tilt wheel: Push the turn signal handle forward = BOING!

I was telling my dad about it and he asked if it had tilt, I totally forgot to look. I'll also get a better pic of the steering wheel upon delivery.
And now that you mentioned the dealer installed cruise, the 1977 Ranger XLT I just bought has cruise control switches on the turn signal lever, I thought it was pretty weird. I'll have to check that out a bit more.
