i pulled the trigger last night and ordered my standard cab 350 with the 6.2 and 4:30 gears. i regularly tow between 8-13k on bumper or 17k with gooseneck. everyone tells me i shouldve got the diesel, but i simply dont trust the new diesels and besides im not rich if they break down they cost to much to repair. am i wrong for thinking this or is the 6.2 capable and have the ***** to do the job i need it to do?
If the load is truly 17k lbs on the scale thats pushing the upper max tow limits from Ford. I think truck will be in 3rd gear most of the time running that weight. Conventional towing 8k-13k no probs there..
Post up some pics once you get your rig..
I've pulled 17K across the state (TX) & in off-road situations & the 6.2 handle it fine & I got the 3.73's... While you may be pushing limits with the truck itself - the motor / drivetrain will handle it fine..
I know guys that haul that heavy all the time & use gassers..
You'll be fine..

do you think itll have the *** to pull that much and not be to hard on it?
I think with 4:30 gears you'll be fine. I have the 3:73 and my TT weighs in about 9K fully loaded. On flat ground I hardly know it's there, in the mountains I can maintain 55-60 on a 7% grade in 4th gear. You may be getting to the outer edge of weight for your truck when pulling 17K, but the powertrain will handle it with ease.

i figured it would test the limits of almost any truck, but i hate duallies unless its a flatbed like my other diesels. ill post up pics in 6-8 weeks, then ill get ya to work your magic on this thing

Absolutely perfect choice on options...you will be surprised just how much grunt that engine has...I promise. Open up the intake and exhaust, throw a tune in there and it will be a towing MACHINE!
