Loud whoosh sound?

Ok, I know the title is stupid, but the last few days my truck has been making this retarded sucking/wooshing sound. About a month ago I read in a post about something that sounds just like it and it mentioned disconnecting "it". What is "it"? I cant find the thread it was in.

Its most likely the Exhaust back pressure valve . You can unplug it ,just behind the turbo...Or Wire it open , or gut it like some have done..

Yep, little two wire connector under the turbo, driver side. Disconnect and forget about it... then maybe delete it later, that's my plan.

Why do people do this?

When I was installing my tymar downpipe last weekend the directions also had a write up about removing this thing. I didn't do it, but was very curious what the pros and cons are?

IMO its worthless. Some use it as an exhaust brake, may help some. All its for originally is to help in warmup on cold days. Fast idle on a chip takes care of that as good anyway I think. It does affect air flow, although minimal, it does. I gutted mine when I installed my tymar and deleted it off the turbo pedestal when I rebuilt the turbo.

You say it's worthless. Do you mean a worthless modification or the valve itself is worthless and you think it should be taken out.

Personally I like hearing engaged at -4 F. It's like having a candle in a cold room. It doesn't really warm you up, but you feel better having a flame nearby...
