ford n 500

i got a ford n 500 go to "ford n 500" on this site (gallery)for photos. you can see i made a big bad pick up truck out of it. am still working on it but this thing has got a 6.20 rear end in it, am resurching a gear change. it has 6 bolt w/ 825 20 wheels i have seen f600 with 5 bolt nothing with 6. this really seems to be a odd ball unit as a coe and "N 500" i just cannot find out anything about it. is it a 1 3/4 ton or 2 ton or? 39 inch tall wheels at 3000 rpm she is doing 55 mph. as it has a industrial 330 cu in v8 i think wide open is around 4000 rpm, any way did they ever make a two speed rear end for this truck. where can i find more info on this unit? I am in the need to know.thanks

Not bad I think. Would take some getting used to as the bed don't fit the cab shape to well. But nice work. There's a cab and chassis like that down the road from me. Now I need to go check it out better.

Can't wait to see all that when done. I got to go and check out the one here and see what it is and if it's worth messing with now. I like the idea of a box behind that style cab for sure. Some ceder side boards would be of interest to me if I did that to try and blend it better I think.

Six lug wheels should be a lot more common than 5 lug as they changed from 5 to 6 in the mid 50s
Two speed axles were in most 600s and are easily put in the 500s

When you go two speed shopping, search "eaton two speed" or similar to find info on the Eaton 2 speeds. Several ratio combinations were available. You want to make sure you get the right combo so you do get a taller "hi" than your current axle.

The other way to go is an OD trans, probably the NV4500, or a Clark OD.

FWIW, the 330 is kind of a pooch. It sounds like you might not be using this for massive loads or towing D8s or anything. So, I would run that 330 for a while, and repower with something like a 351w with a OD trans from a later model truck--serving suggestion, ymmv.

Good luck with it.

A 351W wouldn't be repowering more like unpowering compared to a 330
A 351W is barely enough motor for a F-150

Welcome to FTE

Post the VIN and all the codes found on the Warranty Plate, all can be decoded.

The Warranty Plate is either located on the left door face below the latch, or on the inside of the glovebox door.

An N Series truck is not considered a COE = Cab Over Engine, since the cab is behind the engine, not over it.

Looking for an F600? There's one not too far away. On Route 74 near Andrews NC is a black 1965 F600 Custom Cab dump truck parked on the west side of the hwy (opposite side of the river).

It's been sitting there a long time. I spotted it while driving the back roads of NC & TN recently.

There is another one on the road that goes from Hayesville N.C. to Hiwassee Ga.think it is SR75.
That is of Route 64

Bill you were getting close to my neck of the woods.I'm about 10 miles south of where 64 crosses

Does anyone know who owns this red N600 or where it's located? I'm building one just like it and would like to compare notes. Thanks.

It's a cool truck but I can't get past the bed. It just don't look like it fits.

Thanks--I sent him a PM so let's see what happens. If the bed looks too wide I'm not afraid to slice it down the middle and take a few inches out. I don't want to do it but if I have to it should be easy since it's all flat.

Any idea what part of the country that red truck is from? I've been searching and eventually it will turn up.

Thanks for the help. Some smart people on this site.
