Sorry, but it doesn't make any sense to say that "amsoil is the best" and then not know if they make oil for diesel. You've gotta have some evidence as to why something's the best other than it's the most expensive oil on the shelf at Kragen and has that little display with the white gears and plexiglas.

Here's the link to the website of the oil you claim to be the best but didn't know existed:
AMSOIL Synthetic Diesel Motor Oil, Engine Oil

I don't have an opinion on which oil is the best. I most often buy either a synthetic or conventional oil of a brand I recognize based on price per mile between oil changes.

5 weight at start up for quicker and easier starting, and faster lubing of the engine(so less engine ware.)followed by 40 weight when the engine is warmed up.

heres the filter i chose:

Mobil 1 M1-601 Synthetic Fiber Extended Performance Oil Filter
thats the filter made for 95 powerstroke.it's slightly larger than the fl-1995 even.but fits perfect.
here's the info on that:
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...l_Filters.aspx

i plan on 10k and perhaps 15k mile change intervals.
im going to test a couple times to see how it holds up.then just pick one and call it good.not gunna keep sampling.

My dad use to run 10W30 Diesel oil for winter back when he took his truck to work. To make sure it would start.

Never heard of 5W40 tho.

i disagree guys.
when your starting a cold engine, you want the oil to circulate fast for protection.
this makes the weight you chose important, for your local temps.
this is when an engine takes it worst beating.

when your hauling heavy and working an engine, your going to heat things up.
this is where the higher the flash point of the oil,the better.this way the oil doesn't break down as fast.
of course theres many other factors to consider too,for example here is the importance/benefits of API CJ-4;

Q.Do API CJ-4 oils protect older engines if they are operated on 500 ppm maximum sulfur fuel?

A.Yes, API CJ-4 oils are designed to have performance benefits over API CI-4 and API CI-4 PLUS oils when using both 15 ppm and 500 ppm sulfur fuel, and qualification testing is conducted using both fuels. As a reminder, 2007 on-highway engines with advanced emissions systems must use ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel containing 15-ppm sulfur or less. In cases where older engines/vehicles are operated with 500 ppm sulfur fuel, API CJ-4 is designed to protect the engine better than API CI-4 and API CI-4 PLUS. As always, users should seek guidance from their engine or vehicle manufacturer regarding specific service recommendations.
