1994 transmission fluid change

Just did a filter and fluid change on transmission. It was 1 qurart over before I drained the pan and removed the filter.I drained alittle over 4 quarts maybe 41/2 out. I added back 4 quarts and have drive for 2 days now and its still a quart low or up on the stick about 1/4 inch. I cannot figure what happened to 2 quarts.I checked a few times before changing fluid too make sure it was reading 1 quart over which it definitely was.Could air have been causing a faulty reading. I have had trouble with tranny going into drive recently but wouldnt think that would be caused by overfill reading. Any ideas.

Check the fluid while its hot. If its between the low low and full marks ( in the cross hatching area) then its not that low. If its between those two marks its only low about a half a pint or 1/4 quart or so. Usually when doing a trans service on those they will take about 5 quarts.
