What have you done to your truck today?
I got the Beast inspected today. Easy pass. I love Texas sometimes.
During the plug and wire swap I bust several of those hard plastic vacuum tubes. I fixed all the ones I broke but I wonder if one or two are broken and I cant see them. Who thinks up this stuff, like replacing rubber hoses with hard plastic. Some engineer probably got a bonus for that one.
High idle, misfire under load, etc..
The OP says it is only on the side of his leaking exhaust manifold.
Maybe he is just seeing the flash of burning exhaust gases?
Put a new cap and rotor on the truck today. The old cap and rotor was a Master pro POS cap had the terminals twisting in the plastic, and the terminals and rotor were worse looking than some 40,000 mile caps and rotors I've seen, and they only have like 3500 miles on them. Good thing I wasn't the one to purchase those. New stuff is much better quality.
Spring oil change.
NAPA has Rotella 15-40 for $13 a gallon + a #1515 filter.
I also installed my new air cleaner sticker from Ebay.
Excellent quality, even if it is intended for a blue engine I think it dresses it up.

The seller (auto4) packed it well and shipped quickly.
They have a good selection of stickers.

It wasn't as bad as I thought. Looks like the R&P is shot. I will do new bearings, seals and new clutches also. I need a yoke, oil , additive.
The axle gears and pinion set looked fine. The axles may need to be replaced as well. I looked the carrier over for cracks or splits, but found none. I don't know about wheel bearings either. A little further inspection may be required.

Your pinion got real loose!
Didn't you hear the clunk on overrun and reverse?
If you have a good machine shop I would have the carrier crack checked (Magnaflux or Dye) before you bother setting up a new R&P.
I'm sure you know more about these things than I do, but break in is important.
I have Yukon gears and a cheap Indian carrier now.

We have had really good luck with Motive Gear as far as noise is concerned. I will either go Motive or Yukon.
It didn't make any noise until the day it failed. However, after that it had all kinds of thunks and such.
I was looking at a master set in Motive. They offer either Timken or Koyo for bearings. I may go with Koyo because it is a crap shoot with Timken when it comes to made in the USA. Sometimes they say USA , but the other half of the time they say China. I know Koyo is all Japanese it's $30 less too..
