Ran out of gas on the rear tank today.
When I filled it up I could only get 16 gallons in.!?!?

I'm thinking my pickup is rotted off or something.
Too bad I have the unobtainable large hole, no pump, sender assemblies...

You've got an 87, right? I read somewhere that the pick up leaves about a gallon and the top of the tank is set so as to allow space for 2 gallons for expansion. I know I ran out on my 87 and it took 16 gallons.

Otherwise, found a couple of 8 bolt wheels for my 86 (or 87-whichever need tires first.) on clist for $20. I'll finish cleaning and painting them tomorrow.

In the past, when I run it dry, I can fit almost 20 gallons in when I fill it all the way.
I'm also 25 miles or so short of what I'd expect.

Did some work on Rusty's map pockets today. Both are cracked from the pockets hitting something as the doors were closed. And the problem, in my estimation, is in the design as the top lip of the pocket isn't strong at all, but that's where the force goes when the pocket hits something. So I found some 1/4 wide strap and cut pieces to lay in the top lip of the pocket, as shown below. The strap lays horizontally so it is quite stiff in the in/out plane, but still fits inside the upper lip of the pocket. I epoxied them in using the West System 655K G/Flex Epoxy Adhesive and then clamped it in place to dry.

I'll get pictures tomorrow, but this tries to explain what I did. The line shows where the strap went, and the arrows show where I clamped it to the top lip of the pocket.

How is that glue working out for you Gary?

I always want to know, because I hate to give bad advice about a product I have lots of experience with.

I might have to steal your idea Gary. My map pockets are in great shape, and I'd like to keep them that way.

Jim - Dunno yet as I mixed it with 30.000 minutes available before heading back to church. I just got everything clamped and ran out the door.

Shaun - That's exactly why I posted this, so someone else can do it. I love the door pockets as there's so little storage space in these trucks, but these are so easily broken, especially now that the plastic is getting more brittle. But a 1/4" piece of steel laying side doesn't like to bend, so I'm hoping it'll really strengthen the pockets.

You may be able to do a repair to it that will work for a long time Jim. It could be worth it to pull it out and examine the pick up.

Mine are the same.....although mainly because I (& presumably previous owners/passengers) accidentally kick them occasionally while getting in; they also seem to be made of plastic that's more brittle than the other interior panels.
I was planning on replacing them with a carpet panel, but the storage is handy.

Determined I need to get the grill guard off to get at the headlights, determined the windshield washer doesn't work, did a lights/blinkers check. Need to get off my butt and go get some fasteners to put the plates on but I just don't feel like it. Got both fuel filler necks and a gas cap in the mail. Still waiting on the rest of the parts to arrive.

I fought like mad the other day to replace some window rubber in my truck. I climbed the learning curve so the rest should be easier. Today I replaced the tailgate handle, and man what a high reward job that was. It took about 10 minutes, works perfectly, and solves a problem that had been annoying me for months. I couldn't open the gate without a pair of pliers, and now for 25 bucks it is fixed.

Jim, can't you get a sender assembly for one to be used with a pump, but just block all of that crap off? or do you have the old style wire connector as well?
