Problem is, I actually use my bed. So leaving it in the bed would be hard. Shouldn't be too hard to find a spare tire carrier. At the worst I could just buy the crap new from LMC and be done with it.

Actually, on the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and even the half tons, spare is an option. I was told at Beach Ford in 1994 to order a spare wheel in order to get the carrier.

I have a 38 gal tank, but I'm not sure I want to install it...that requires removing the hitch, skid plate and then the gas tank...Idk that that is worth it..I already have two tanks..so Idk. I might do it one day...but 55gallons to fill up is A LOT if it isn't my dd anymore...hmm decisions decisions

Not to it, but with it. A 267 mi round trip to Dover DE to pick up a big tool box (pictures later) with a slight detour into the edge of Salisbury MD to pickup a Sears tractor with a bulldozer blade.

As promised, toolbox picture.

Looks like it's got a Tecumseh from the pictures.

According to the rapid spec ordering guide I have for 1985 Ford trucks, the spare tire was an option on all 150-350 trucks. Its possible his truck was never ordered with one.

My dad also used his bed hard, with a spare 33" tire hoisted on the side and rollbars, and at one point, 3 toolboxes. Don't tell me you can't put a measly 235 up there

Problem is, I put lawnmowers and stuff in the bed, and I tie them up against the back wall. So the tire would be in the way.

Mount it just behind the cab in front of the wheel well. There's plenty of space. Trust me, we used to stuff a bunch of three wheelers in there.

I'm interested in seeing how you position them though.

Time to crowd source some specs here.

Just an idea...

Some time ago, I thought about how it might be to have a swing away spare tire carrier, like on full sized Broncos. My understanding is that Broncos have extra reinforcement in the area where the bracket is mounted on the passenger side. If someone wanted to, the inside of the bed could be cut [window] so the reinforcement could be added. The "window" could be welded shut, primed and painted or covered with spray in bed liner.

What do you think?

I'd rather just buy the carrier new and have my bed if I were going to do that lol.

How are you 'going to do that' if you have the deep gas tank?

I think that's the whole point.

I have a standard 19 gallon tank, and it's going to stay that way.

Here is what I've done so far today...SOLD my old 300!! This is where I've had it since I took it out of my truck.

This is what the guy pulled up in:

F350 converted dually, diesel w/ZF, this thing was a beast!! Had no floor or rocker left on the drivers side!! but he said it was very reliable, and it must be as he drove 120 miles to get here!! The best part of all this is he paid my asking price
